Nestled within a natural protective rocky outcrop of a majestic mountain range, is a secret haven carved out by nature and lovingly, carefully crafted by man. This 18-acre sprawling park perches over the township like a hidden green gem offering rest, respite and rejuvenation for those who wander through.
Redefining the notions of a traditional park, Public Park is birthed from a bold vision embracing the existing rock hill that surrounds the back end of the masterplan and hugs the township with immense nature and greenery. The hill forest is treated lightly and with as little intervention as possible to maintain nature’s original handprint.
The natural landscape is honoured in every manner. Local or endemic species make up the majority of the flora in the park. Efforts have also been made to reintroduce local forest trees back to the space and to replace the secondary forest. Similarly, most of the spaces and surfaces use locally sourced building materials that are durable and reacts well to the climate.
Public Park comprises three main sections: Hill Park, Al Fresco Retail Park and Sanctuary Park. Each offers a distinct experience designed to bring man and nature together. More importantly, the park also has many parts reserved for wildlife such as migratory birds and local fishes.
The journey into paradise begins at Hill Park where visitors are welcomed by an extensive play area, Bamboo Trail and Lookout Pavilion shaded by canopies of trees. Garden paths meander through a natural lake alive with fishes, marine life and water plants. Sunshine peeks through open spaces created for public gatherings and activities, while in the background, the gushing of the waterfall provides a soothing tune.
A short walk away the Al Fresco Retail Park offers refreshment and therapy of a different kind. Retail shops dot the area, blending in unobtrusively with the hillside forest and landscaping. Enjoy a cup of coffee in a sun dappled courtyard under the cover of trees. Take a rest along the Linear Wetland hugging the Al Fresco Retail Park. Browse interesting finds in the cooling mist of the waterfall.
The park ends in the appropriately named Sanctuary Park. Tucked away in the quietest part of the vast green lung is a secluded retreat that brings the visitor even closer to nature. Lush greenery surrounds an expansive, tranquil pond. Paths and treks wind around and venture deeper into the forest. Public Park, a truly unique, immersive experience of the wonder of nature, right in the heart of the city.
